LAUGH LOUD, LOVE HARD: Embarrassed By Night Closes HAAPIFest 2025 with Comedy, Culture, and Chaos

What Happens When Vietnamese Culture Meets Stand-Up Comedy?

You get Embarrassed By Night — a hilarious, high-energy comedy showcase that takes over the HAAPIFest 2025 Closing Night celebration!

Born out of Vietnamese American nostalgia and a need for raw, unfiltered storytelling, Embarrassed By Night is a live comedy and music variety show created by comedians Fred Le and Andy Van. Think of it as a bold, comedic homage to Paris by Night — those iconic Vietnamese variety show VHS tapes that lived rent-free in every refugee household in the '90s.

Now, Embarrassed By Night comes to Houston for one special night, bringing together a powerhouse cast of Vietnamese American comedians who aren’t afraid to roast, reflect, and reclaim their culture with laughter. This is comedy for the children of the diaspora — and anyone who’s ever felt caught between cultures, identities, and family expectations.

🎤 Sunday, June 8 | 7:00–10:00 PM | DoubleTree by Hilton – Houston, TX

The Lineup — Meet the Comedians of Embarrassed By Night

  • Fred Le (@fredle)

Filmmaker, stand-up comic, and co-creator of Embarrassed By Night, Fred Le is a Vietnamese American storyteller who uses humor to tackle intergenerational trauma and identity. He co-directed the HAAPIFest 2025 documentary The Empathizer, and has performed at SF Sketchfest, Treefort, and Boom Chicago in Amsterdam.

  • Andy Van (@andyvanandyvan)

LA-based comic and Bay Area native, Andy Van is known for his sharp observations and laid-back delivery. As co-creator of Embarrassed By Night, he blends his Vietnamese heritage with charming irreverence, producing indie shows up and down the West Coast and performing nationally.

  • Alex Duong (@dapperduong)

Originally from Dallas and now a regular at The World Famous Comedy Store in Hollywood, Alex Duong has appeared on Netflix’s Historical Roast, CBS’s Bluebloods, and The OnlyFans Roast of Whitney Cummings. He’s also toured with Ronny Chieng and continues to rise as a bold voice in Asian American comedy.

  • Viet Nguyen (@vietspeekenglizh)

Viet Nguyen immigrated to the U.S. at 19 and brings a clever, edgy twist to stand-up, taking cultural observations to new (and hilarious) depths. He’s lit up stages at The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, and the Ice House, always walking the tightrope between bold honesty and sharp wit.

  • Sean Porter (@iamseanporter)

Half Vietnamese, half Black, and 100% funny, Sean Porter brings a multiracial, multicultural lens to comedy. He’s appeared on HBO’s Sweet Life: Los Angeles, Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud Radio, and produces his own monthly show at The Ice House Comedy Club. Expect brutally honest, laugh-out-loud stories only Sean can tell.

Why You Can’t Miss It

Embarrassed By Night is more than just a comedy show — it’s a celebration of Asian American identity, Vietnamese culture, and the power of authentic storytelling. Whether you grew up with Paris by Night in the background or are just discovering the rich diversity of Vietnamese American voices, this is a one-of-a-kind event that blends humor, heritage, and heart.
