HAAPIFEST 2026 presents Ky Nam Inn (Quán Kỳ Nam) — a beautifully crafted story set in post-war Saigon, where love, identity, and quiet resistance unfold in unexpected ways.

🌆 Saigon, 1985 — A City in Transition

In a rapidly changing Vietnam, a young translator is rising through the ranks of the new regime. Tasked with translating The Little Prince, he lives a life shaped by duty, discipline, and quiet ambition.

But everything shifts when he meets Ky Nam — the mysterious, reserved widow living next door.

What begins as a simple encounter evolves into something deeper, more complex, and ultimately transformative.

💫 A Story of Connection and Change

Set against the backdrop of a nation rebuilding itself, Ky Nam Inn explores:

  • The tension between personal desire and societal expectations

  • The search for identity in a changing world

  • The quiet power of human connection

  • Love that exists beyond words and boundaries

Through poetic storytelling and intimate performances, the film captures the emotional landscape of a generation navigating history, memory, and longing.

🎥 A Distinctive Cinematic Voice

Directed by Leon Le, Ky Nam Inn continues the filmmaker’s exploration of identity, culture, and human connection through a deeply personal lens.

A Vietnamese-American filmmaker, Leon Le first gained international recognition with his short films Dawn and Talking to My Mother, which were showcased at over 100 film festivals worldwide.

His debut feature Song Lang (2018) received global acclaim and won more than 50 awards, establishing him as a powerful voice in contemporary cinema.

With Ky Nam Inn, which premiered in Toronto in 2025, Le brings another layered and visually striking story to the screen — one that lingers long after the credits roll.
